EMARI Senior EMM

On January 30, 2011 the EMARI region held its Senior EMM evaluation. Congratulations to the following candidates for their successful completion of the program:

• Mario Espinal – Wachusett Mountain
• Bernice Chandler-Petrovick – Ski Ward
• Missi Baima – Wachusett Mountain
• Erik Holm – Wachusett Mountain
• Michael Doucet – Wachusett Mountain
• Matt Stundtner – Wachusett Mountain
• Dana Gray – Wachusett Mountain
• John Lawrence – Wachusett Mountain (tested in Western MA)

To help patrollers prepare for the evaluation, 18 clinics were scheduled in the region. It is only with the support of the trainers that we are able to accommodate so many different clinic days and times. We were fortunate to have a new TE join the group this year. Congratulations Nick Rasher! Another TE has recently moved to the EMARI region and has joined our talented group of TE's. Welcome Jeff Cole. Nick and Jeff join the following list of TE's: Steve Arndt, Janet Arndt, John Caron, Bill Devarney, Norm Doherty, Kim Fletcher, Sheila Daly, Deb Foss, Joe Greenwood, Dave Hemindinger, Gordon Hughes, Jenn Laitala, Michelle Landry, Ed McNamara, Edee McNamara, Alice Painter, John Shipman, Janet Read, Jim Slattery, Dave Walker, and Jane Williams. Thanks to all of them for their dedication to the program.

We also have 4 new TE’s that are ready to join in the fun. Jon Longley, Cal Goldsmith, Rick Nitti and Mario Espinal traveled to Connecticut for the TE clinic. Jeff Morris and Josh Tamulen are TE candidates for the upcoming season. Thank you for your time and interest in continuing with Senior EMM.

We were fortunate to have 3 ski areas’ welcome us for clinics. Thank you to Nashoba Valley, Ski Ward, and Wachusett Mountain. Again this year, Wachusett Mountain was host to the evaluation. With almost 50 people involved in this year’s evaluation, the accommodations provided were greatly appreciated.

Equipment this year is in good shape. We added new ladder splints and backboard straps to all the training bags.

My first year coordinating the Sr.EMM program would not have been possible without the help and support or so many people, unfortunately too many to try to mention them here. Thank you all. I look forward to working with you again next year as we support a new group of eager Sr.EMM candidates.
